On October 18th, Damascus will face off with Clarksburg to kick off the weekend’s homecoming festivities in an exciting game.
Damascus’s record is 4-2, beating Magruder, Poolesville, Rockville, and Einstein, and losing to Northwest and Sherwood. Clarksburg has played a few of the teams that Damascus played like Magruder and Poolsville or a few teams Damascus will play like Seneca Valley and Wootton. Clarksburg is 3-3; they have won against Walkins Mill, Wheaton, and Gaithersburg and lost against Wootton, Magruder, and Seneca Valley. Damascus’s final goal is not just to win the Homecoming game; they want to win the State Championship.
We interviewed Daniel Granados, a junior defensive lineman who sadly was injured in the game against Poolesville to hear what he had to say about Clarksburg, “We’re playing Clarksburg; we are going to crush them.” Granados[11] says that they will crush Clarksburg, which I also think is true. The team has prepared well for each game and the outcomes were what they thought they would be for each game, so the turnout of this game should be the same. The football team gleans energy from the student section. We also asked Jake Luther, a sophomore and avid football game attendee, who shared “I’m glad they’re playing Clarksburg for homecoming so we will win, that would suck to lose the homecoming game .”The Homecoming football game means a lot to everybody at the school, if the game were to be lost it would bring the mood down for Homecoming weekend when everybody should be excited, happy, and having fun. We also talked to the head coach, Coach Klotz, who said, “Every week we have been preparing for every game that comes to us, this game against Clarksburg for homecoming should be a pretty good game, we will be preparing and practicing hard like we have every week, to win.”Coach Klotz is confident that the team will win the game. He spoke highly regarding how the team prepares every week for the games.
Northwest was the hardest game of the season for Damascus on September 13th, and the score was 28-0. It was a tough loss for Damascus, the team still fought hard though, and gave it their all. That game is behind them now and they are back on track to go and win the state championship.
