In a thrilling display of teamwork and skill, the Damascus High School girls volleyball team beat Wheaton High School in a 4 set thriller on October 4th, 2024 for Dig Pink. Damascus led the game by taking a strong first set from Wheaton, then eventually fell short by two points with a final score of 23-25 in the second set. After allowing Wheaton to catch up and exceed in a victory in set 2, the lady hornets were able to lead the game offensively led by senior captain Alana Scott and senior pin hitter Elana Brooks to secure set 3. Following leading assists from senior Captain Juliet Ventura, and freshman setter Rylee Wilberding. Defense was lead by sophomore Libero Marley Tinney.
After the victory from set three, the 4th set came very easy for the lady hornets to succeed in. last two sets of the game from under Wheaton to honor Dig pink. The atmosphere in the Damascus gym was tense, as fans rallied behind the team throughout each intense set. The girls showcased their determination bouncing back from each setback to dominate the final sets. With this victory, the Damascus team demonstrated their spirit and commitment on the court while supporting Dig Pink for breast cancer awareness.
The Lady Hornets put in extra time outside of the gym before the game to provide support to the bake sale fundraiser by baking cookies, cakes, cake pops, cupcakes, brownies, and so many more sweet treats to support donations.
Dig Pink is an event held every October to raise money to donate to those suffering from the effects of breast cancer. All money made from the bake sale and donated by those participating at the game or online was donated to those in need.
