There are so many award shows that it can be hard to keep track. There’s the Oscars (awarded for being involved with movies), Tonys (awarded for being involved with broadway productions) and the one that is happening most recently, the Grammy Awards. The Grammy Awards are given to the most popular song artist and bands of the year. They are divided into many categories to single out and shine a spotlight on each individual artist for what genre of music they perform. The Grammy Awards will take place Feb. 2. The Grammy Awards started on May 4, 1959 and have been going on since then. Last year’s winners were Taylor Swift for her Midnights album, Miley Cyrus for her song Flowers, as well as many other amazing artists. Beyonce has won a record-setting 34 Grammy awards.
The Grammy Awards can be very complicated for people who don’t know anything about music or the awards in general. Emily McNicholus said to “expect the unexpected”
and she wishes “the fans could vote and not just a group of people.” Another student named Jessica Lemus Reyes wanted to say that she thinks that Sabrina Carpenter will win the most awards. Lemus Reyes’s advice to new viewers is “don’t expect your favorite artist to win because they never do.” Another student named Madeyln Powell plans to tune in for the first time this year. She says that her favorite genre of music is pop and really wants Taylor Swift to win and “to be recognized for her music” because “she puts in a lot of work, and she exercises to be a better performer.” All of these people at Damascus High School are super excited to see the results if their favorite artist wins the awards they deserve.
The main categories are Best Album, Best Song, Best New Artist, Best Solo Song Artist, Best Pop Duo, Best Rap Album, Best Country Album, Best
Rock Album, and Best R&B Album. For Best Album Award, most people thought that Charlie XCX would win for creating the album “360” which was released May 10, 2024. The other people who were in line for this award were tied in the
polls, so there was no clear prediction on who would win second place. Most people predicted the Best Song of the Year Award would go to Chappel Roan who sang the song “Good Luck, Babe” which was released in 2024. Most people envisioned that Sabrina Carpenter would win the Best New Artist award. Many predicted that the Best Solo Song Artist Award would go to Beyonce. Most thought the Best Pop Duo Award was a tie for Ariana Grande, Brandy & Monica for releasing “The Boy Is Mine” and Lady Gaga & Bruno Mars for releasing the song “Die with a Smile.” The majority prophesied the Best Rap Album Award would be handed to Eminem for coming out with the album “The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce).” Most seemed to predict that the Best Country Album award would be received by Beyoncé for coming out with the album “Cowboy Carter.” Students fortelled the Best Rock Album Award would be handed to the popular band called The Rolling Stones for coming out with the album called “HackneyDiamonds.” Last, but not least, the polls projected the win of Best R&B Album Award would go to Usher’s album called “Coming Out.” There are many more awards that will be handed out, so make sure you tune in on Feb. 2 to see your favorite artists.
