The season just ended, and the Damascus Football Team ended the season with a record of 7-4, losing in the state quarter-finals. This was very upsetting for many of the players, mainly the seniors. Many of the seniors had a great season including Jeremiah Sandy who tied a record for most passing touchdowns with four in a single game. Antoine Johnson’s first season back resulted in several rushing touchdowns after his terrible injury his sophomore year. Micheal Cooley also scored many rushing touchdowns, and many more seniors played a great season. The Hornets plan to return strong next year with the hopes of winning another state championship.
The most recent state championship the Hornets won was back in 2022 against Oakdale High School. The two most recent players that have played here at Damascus who went to play in the NFL were Jake Funk and Bryan Bresee, who are still playing in the NFL(National Football League) today. Damascus football has many accomplishments including a lot of state championships. Friday night was the night that the whole community would look forward to, the night of high school football. Damascus football has had many great head coaches leading the football team to victory. The most recent, Coach Klotz, led the team to a state championship in 2022. Before Coach Klotz, the team had Coach Wallick, who is now a gym teacher here at Damascus.
Damascus High School has always had a strong football team and great athletics overall. Football here at Damascus has always had so many people coming out to play for the Hornets; this year one in every six boys played football here at Damascus which is fantastic.
