This February, students have an exciting event to look forward to; the winter pep rally, scheduled for Feb. 14. The pep rally is meant to encourage and boost school spirit while celebrating the students and the sports achievements they worked hard for.
Grace Duffy-Tucci, the SGA officer responsible for the pep rallies, shared that the rally will showcase a variety of clubs and teams. Attendees can expect performances from the cheerleading squad and the poms team, as well as lively presentations from the Latin Dance Club, Black Student Union (BSU), and potentially Bollywood dancers. In addition to performances, the rally will also highlight and promote future basketball games and upcoming sports events. The deadline to sign up to participate in the pep rally was Wednesday, Feb. 5.
Planning for the pep rally begins two months in advance. Duffy-Tucci reaches out to captains and performance leaders to coordinate their involvement and give them a deadline. Duffy-Tucci shared that the planning process is “very very dependent on the responsiveness of sports captains and performance leaders.” Although effective communication may be difficult, it is essential to the planning process and a seamless experience for the audience. Necessary supplies are also ordered for any games and performances that need them. Duffy-Tucci also creates a soundtrack for the rally and writes a script for the MCs. Thanks to the hard work of all those involved, pep rallies became memorable events of the high school experience.
Opinions about the pep rallies vary, but most agree they are fun and engaging. Rebbecca Cordova, a junior, says her favorite part is when the classes can compete against each other during games. Like many other students, Cordova also likes the chance to gather with friends and show their school spirit together.
