Last year the boy’s varsity team only had five seniors, three sophomores, and an outstanding eleven juniors. All of those juniors are now seniors leading the team this year. They had a good season but unfortunately did not win states.
This year the boys have played both of Damascus’s rivals, Clarksburg and Seneca. Both games were blowouts, with Damascus winning against both of them, with Clarksburg 11-1 and Seneca Valley 25-0. They have also played a few other teams like Magruder, Watkins Mill, Sherwood, North West, and Poolsville. The boys have started off the year very strong with many wins and more to come. They have many more games to play and hope to win them all, they are working hard to do so. The last time the team won a state championship was back in 2000. If they work hard and play well enough they could get one this year.
There are many seniors this year and a few of them are Mason Walters, Cameron Wilberding, Cesar Aguirre, and so many more. The seniors have started the year off strong, leading the rest of the team to many victories and hoping for a state championship. Although the team lost a few seniors last year they still have a lot this year which is good. They will lose all the seniors next year which means they will lose a lot of people but they have depth so the team will still be strong. Cameron Wilberding has contributed a lot to the team getting many home runs.
We interviewed a player on the team who would like to keep their name anonymous and asked them about how they think the team is doing and how far they think the team could go. They answered saying the team is doing really well to start off the year and they also said that the team definitely has the potential to go to states and win. Another thing he said was that he was hoping that they could make it to States at the least because he has never experienced something like that and that it would be cool. Going to States is a really fun and cool experience even if you lose, the loss will be very disappointing but being able to go is a great experience.
