Current Record
This year’s season record has put the boys and girls at 3-1, with the boys only second place finish to Clarksburg High School, and the girls only second place finish to Seneca Valley High School. This is an excellent start for the year for this amazing team, with a few more meets to go.
Ups and downs
So far, the Damascus High School track team has put in a lot of work and dedication to performing their best when it comes to it, but that also comes with some downsides. Many runners are experiencing injuries, mostly from overuse. The most common being the infamous shin splints. It’s a nagging injury that only fully heals with time and rest, which most runners don’t have much of. Some runners have missed meets because of injuries, but that won’t stop the Damascus Hornets from victory. On the other hand, many runners are thriving injury-free and putting up personal bests in all their events. Many of the freshmen blew it out of the water, making the team hopeful for years to come.
Season Goals
Jonathan Riccinni, one of the seniors and leaders on the team, states, “This season’s goal is for everyone on the team to get personal bests.” The Damascus High School Track and Field team wants everyone to do their best, on and off the track. They don’t just look for excellence on the track, but also in the classrooms and in society. One runner that is having an outstanding season so far is Micah Carobenel. He has improved drastically since last year, being the fastest long-distance runner on the team. On 4/10/25, in the Linganore Hexa classic, Micah ran an impressive 2:04 in the 800 meters. Dropping two seconds from his previous time, and eight from last year’s season. Another runner who has made a big improvement is Jacob Luce. This runner has shown excellence on and off the track, and it has paid off. He has improved in the 1600 and the 800 meters this year and still has plans to improve even more. Lastly, Bella Janss has paved a way for all the runners crushing it every meet in the 300-meter hurdles and the 4×1. She has led the girls to many victories and isn’t stopping there. Her academic excellence is also one of her accomplishments and something that coaches stress and expect runners to have.
