Part One
“Clue: On Stage” was written by Aaron Koch and Khushi Kapoor on Oct. 17. The Buzz covered the first Damascus High School show of this school year by interviewing the cast and crew.On stage there were eight different rooms or scenery built by Mars Dunn who was the head of the Tech Team.
“Venom: the Last Dance” premiered just days before Halloween where students go into depth of “the movie creates[ing] a lot of suspense and generates the true bromance relationship between Eddie Brock (Hardy) and Venom. There’s plenty of wholesome scenes with amazing song choices that really add to the movie”. Venom had a lot of story and “character development that took place”. The article came out on Halloween and was written by Gabriel Isla.
The article “Book Recommendations for Fall” was written by Lily Tran. The story shows what the Damascus High school Media center has to offer students who are interested in reading spooky stories. Some of the stories included The Naturals” by Jennifer Lynn Barnes,“Lovely War” by Julia Berry, “A Study in Drowning” by Ava Reid, “Thieves Gambit” by Kayvion Lewis, “Three Dark Crowns” by Kendare Blake, “The Book of Witching” by C.J Cooke, “Misery” by Stephen King , “Once Upon a Broken Heart” by Stephine Garber, and “Better than the Movies” by Lynn Painter. Some students explained that some good fall books were light hearted rom coms.
Another story that came out on Halloween was the “All Elite Wrestling takes over the DMV” written by Aaron Koch. The story goes into the history of this event where the Vice presidents and founders were founded on Jan. 1, 2019, by Matt Jackson, Nick Jackson, Cody Rhodes, and Kenny Omega. Mr. Dow, DHS math teacher, actually went to one of these events a couple times as well. This wrestling event’s mission was to make sure everyone was interested in tuning in (including new people who had never seen wrestling before until this.)
Another huge event was the Taylor Swift Eras tour, covered in the article titled “Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour Rises in Popularity and Cost”. The tour went on for almost two years gaining much support from Swifties to casual fans. Taylor Swift earned over 8 billion dollars from merchandise and ticket purchases. The article had interviews from dhs staff and students about their experience at the Eras tour. The article was written by Julia Alexander and was published on Halloween.
The last article that came out on Halloween was written by Mia Dove called “New evidence in the Menendez case may free the brothers from their 30 year prison stay”. The article dives into the past and new evidence of the popular case everyone had been following. The students gave their thoughts and opinions on the new wave of evidence and if it changed the outcome of the trail.
Another article that is based on a movie was “Pirates of the Caribbean is as remarkable as the Godfather” by Khushi Kapoor. The story gave background information and the history of the old Pirates of the Caribbean movies that came out in the 2000’s. It gave information on the lour behind each relationship and movie. It also gave information on the Cinematography of each film. The article came out on Nov. 1.
The “MCU 101: How to watch the Marvel Cinematic Universe” by Khushu Kapoor was a great story to come out on Nov.18th since thanksgiving break was just around the corner and people needed something to do in their free time. The story was divided into three sections from average fan to mega fan. Based on what type of fan you were you would read a paragraph on what movies to watch and why.
Since the holiday season was about to start a staff writer wrote a story on the “The arrival of the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree in New York City marks the beginning of the holiday season” The article talked about the history of the tree and how big and wide the new tree is. On a cultural note, Anny Fajardo wrote a story on “Opinions on the Hispanic Heritage Assembly”. According to the article, there were a lot of cultures and countries that were represented and celebrated throughout the assembly. There also were a lot of interviews from students talking about what the assembly meant to them.
The last story that came out in November was “Thanksgiving Fact Grab Bag!” written by a staff writer. The story went into detail about the upcoming M Thanksgiving Day Parade, the history of the event and the process of making it all happen in the past couple of years.
Part Two
On Nov. 18, Staff Writer Ally Ossipo published an article covering the tragic death of beloved singer/songwriter Liam Payne. Payne was found dead after falling from a three-story balcony at the CasaSur Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Several new movies came out this year including “Wicked” and “Moana 2”. Staff Writer Julia Alexander covered the “Wicked” premiere. Many musical and movie fans alike flocked to the theatre to check out these highly anticipated movies.
On Jan. 23, The Buzz came out with a story called “Style, Glamour, Fashion!” written by Lily Tran. The article was divided up into a timeline that starts from the 1900’s. Each category of years has details about what was “in” that year or how fashion developed over the years.
The article published on Jan. 23 was called “MJF vs Bryan Danielson, AEW Revolution 2023 written by Aaron Koch. The story goes into the background of a famous wrestler named Bryan Danielson who fought other wrestlers in 2012. The article also shows elements from past matches from Bryan’s career.
Another article talked about was written by Khushi Kappoor and was published on Jan. 23 called “Animation: the Underpaid and Unappreciated. The article was about how behind the glamorous hollywood film companies there lies a whole other world where Disney laid off 14% of their workers and Pixar fired 1,300 people.
One of the last stories published during this time period was “The History of the Met Gala.” It was released one day after the first three articles and was written by Ally Ossipo. The article talked about when it was founded and how it was run back then. It goes through the timeline and events leading up to the present day.
Part Three
There are so many articles that came out this year however people saw the most growth and entertainment in the ones that came out these last few months. From Pokemon trading to the iconic author, Jane Austen, there was a story published for everyone to enjoy.
On Jan. 28 a story came out about “Trading card games and the secondary market” written by a staff writer. The article talks about the history of trading cards where it originally “started to form around the 1800’s but became something bigger and more modern later on in the 1900’s”. The story also talks about the different types of trading cards and their culture, such as pokemon and Magic the Gathering.
The next month, on Feb. 4, Khushi Kappoor, Kasey Yu, and Lily Tran published a story on “Guys and Dolls: A sneak peak”. The story dives into an overall view of “Guys and Dolls” from interviews with the cast and crew to talk about working on the set and how it is to be on and off stage.
The day after the “Guys and Dolls” article came out, Anny Fargo published a story on “Waiting for the winter pep rally”. The story talks about the different performances that were going to be performed in the gym. The article also has students explain the planning process of organizing a pep rally.
TikTok shop is loved by so many students at DHS, and on March 6, Gabriel Isla published an article titled “TikTok Shop should increase affiliate program eligibility”. The article discusses that “when the companies aren’t doing their own direct marketing, there are individual TikTok creators who do the marketing for them through the affiliate program”. Isla also addressed concerns about the TikTok ban that was going to happen that month.
Spring is an amazing time to read books, Anny Fargo published a story on “The Value of Reading Books” on March 6th. She talks about how “Reading is also a way to escape the real world and focus on an imaginative world” and how it can reduce stress.
On March 6, Lily Tran came out with a story called “Books are an essential part of our lives; why do some feel the need to take them away?” She goes into detail on why people are banning books, most people feel like the LGTBQ community is being forced into the school system and how it makes people feel uncomfortable. She addresses that those reasons alone shouldn’t be the reason kids can’t feel a sense of belonging.
StarWars is very popular amongst all ages, however the three movies that are most popular with Gen Z are the Prequels. Entertainment Co-Editor Mara Kuroda published a story discussing these ”movies do not deserve a bad reputation”. She defends the prequel star wars movies by going into depth of how they are better than everyone says they are.
Spring break was coming up around April 11, so Theo Ellestand came out with a story called “It’s Spring Break; go camping”. He talks about why people should and how to go camping along with interviews from a dhs staff member on good locations to go camping.
On April 23 one of the last stories got published called “ Final School Events for Seniors” written by Ally Ossipo. The story talks about prom and traditional senior events such as “senior sunset, senior assassin, senior skip day, and the infamous senior prank”.
The Article “What to expect at Coachella 2025″ was written by Gabriel Isla and published on April 28. The story talks about the food being served and ticket prices that go from 500 dollars. Isla also talked about the artists that were playing at Coachella such as Green Day and Lady Gaga.
The last and final story that our news team published was “The one and only Jane Austen” written by Khushi Kappor and was published on May 20th. She talked about the books she published and how when she died her brother continued publishing her books she was drafting.
Our news team has worked so hard to give the school articles that have truth and creativity. There has been so much improvement since the first article. We will continue to write and publish news stories next fall.
