Homecoming is a tradition across American high schools throughout the country. The first homecoming was in 1911 at the University of Missouri, but Harvard and Yale have argued that they had the first homecoming in the 1800s. According to the University of Missouri’s Alumni, their claim has been substantiated by Chester Brewer’s invitation to alumni to “come home” for a football game, which only further engaged the original celebration of having a homecoming, complete with a competitive football game, pep rallies, and even bonfires!
Last week, at Damascus High School, students participated in spirit week ahead of the 2025 Homecoming. On Monday, Oct. 6, students dressed like they lived in different areas. The seniors dressed like they live on a farm, juniors dressed like they live at the beach, sophomores dressed like they live in the city, and freshmen dressed like they live in the mountains. On Tuesday, Oct. 7, seniors and juniors dressed up while freshmen and sophomores dressed down. On Wednesday, Oct. 8, students brought anything but a backpack. On Thursday, Oct 9, seniors dressed as senior citizens, juniors as toddlers, sophomores as college students, and freshmen as parents. Finally, on Friday, Oct. 10, each grade had its own theme. The senior theme was Stranger Things, and their class colors are gold and yellow. The juniors’ theme was Monster House, and their class color was green. The sophomore theme was Harry Potter, and their class color was black. The freshmen theme was The Adams Family, and their class color was white.
Last Saturday, student attended the 2025 Damascus High School event, which was very enjoyable and memorable.
