After polls were administered to the public, the Montgomery County School Board deliberated on the feedback and chose a calendar for the 2023-2024 school year.

The previous calendar schedule was in place for a long time. The first day of school used to be at the end of August, followed by a small break for Thanksgiving in November and then winter break. The new calendar is changing this up.

The first day of school is going to be on Aug. 28th. Thanksgiving break will be the same as this year, thus having two half days before Thanksgiving Break. For Winter Break, instead of starting on Friday, Dec. 23 and coming back to school on Tuesday, Jan. 3, next year the break will start on Saturday, Dec. 23 and end on Tuesday, Jan. 2, so one less day.

The last day of school for next year will be on Thursday, June 13. Next year will also have five half days, which is three fewer than what we have for this year’s school calendar.

There have been mixed reviews about the new calendar. To garner opinions about the options, the people who worked on the calendar released a poll to the public with some prospective calendars to see which would be the most suitable for students’ education.
