From Aussie Arrow to Protostar, Kyle Fletcher has taken the wrestling world by storm in the past year. Currently at only 26 years old, he has performed around the globe and won numerous championships, but First lets go through his early career.

Born December 24, 1998 in Sydney Australia, Fletcher began his pro wrestling career in April of 2014 under the name “InstaGraham”. In 2017, after two years wrestling in Australia, Fletcher moved to the UK to make a name for himself, where he would shortly find his kindred spirit and tag team partner Mark Davis. Shortly they would form the tag team Aussie Assault, which was later changed to what is known today as Aussie Open. Aussie Open soon caught the attention of bigger companies such as RevPro and New Japan Pro Wrestling in 2019. By 2021, Aussie Open was well known throughout the nation, but one group they had their eye on was the United Empire. The United Empire is a wrestling faction formed in 2020 by Great-O-Khan and Will Ospreay who had joined by betraying his stablemate in the CHAOS faction, Kazuchika Okada. In the Empire’s growth, new members came along, each being from a separate country on the planet representing their culture. This diversity of talent along the faction made them a force to be reckoned with.

Feb. 19, 2021 is a day that will be marked in the history of the United Empire. At RevPro’s annual pay per view, High Stakes, the leader of the United Empire, Will Ospreay, teamed with the Young Guns (Ethan Allen and Luke Jacobs) and went up against RKJ and the Sunshine Machine. In an impressive showing, The Young Guns managed to pick up the victory over the Sunshine Machine, but in an unexpected twist, Aussie Open ran into the ring and beat down Ethan Allen and Luke Jacobs. Intrigued by the team’s ruthless nature and cold-blooded approach, Aussie Open were recruited into the United Empire, taken under the wing of Will Ospreay who saw much talent in the two.

On May 24, 2023 an announcement was put out that the renowned tag team of Kyle Fletcher and Mark Davis was signed to All Elite Wrestling. The fans had no idea what was to come with AEW. July 21, 2023, at Ring of Honor’s annual death before dishonor pay per view, Aussie Open won the ROH tag team championships in a fatal four way match. Their reign with the ROH tag team championships was dominant but short lived though as they were dethroned 37 days later.
As fans were witnessing Aussie Open in the midst of their growth, one half of the team Mark Davis unfortunately suffered a wrist injury at AEW’s WrestleDream on Oct. 1, 2023. Kyle Fletcher was put out in the open without the help of his partner, everything was thrown out of sorts. On Oct. 28, 2023, Kyle Fletcher aligned himself with the Don Callis Family alongside Konosuke Takeshita, Will Hobbs, Sammy Guevara, and most importantly, Will Ospreay which marked a new chapter in the story of Kyle Fletcher. At this time he took on a new title, the Protostar.

Fletcher’s new found alliance with the DCF proved very successful because he would later win the Ring of Honor television championship in December of 2023. Kyle Fletcher ended up holding on to the title for an epic six months. As 2023 came to a close, more fans got behind the Protostar, he went toe to toe with big names such as Kenny Omega, MJF, Swerve Strickland and Bryan Danielson.
At this point in Fletcher’s time in AEW, he wanted to kick off the 2024 year by winning tag team gold. Teaming up with his best friend Will Ospreay, they won a tag team casino gauntlet match and earned a shot at the AEW tag team championships against the Young Bucks at AEW Grand Slam in Arthur Ashe Stadium.
When asked about his relationship with Will Ospreay ahead of their match at Grand Slam, in an interview with Fightful, Kyle Fletcher responded saying: “I consider Will Ospreay to be my brother. I know him like the back of my hand, he knows me like the back of his hand. I think we have a pretty good chance to take those belts off them, so I can’t wait for it”.
Despite Will Ospreay and Kyle Fletcher losing their title opportunity, this match proved that the team could go head to head with some of the top tag teams in the world. But this loss seemed to flip a switch within Kyle Fletcher.
In the lead up to WrestleDream 2024, the Don Callis Family was looking stronger than ever from the outside. But as time went on, the golden goose of the DCF Will Ospreay was straying further away from the group. After reclaiming the AEW International Championship at All In 2024, Will Ospreay was one of the hottest singles competitors in All Elite Wrestling, he didn’t need the Don Callis Family to help him get wins or defend his championship. This new change in attitude irritated Don Callis, the leader of the faction, and he would unleash his anger on the five year anniversary of AEW Dynamite.

On this special edition of Dynamite, Will Ospreay defended his International Championship against Ricochet, but in a turn of events, the lynch pin of the Don Callis Family Konosuke Takeshita made an appearance and attacked both men, leading to a disqualification. When it later came out that Don Callis himself orchestrated the interference, Will Ospreay had declared he was finished with the Don Callis family, this put Kyle Fletcher in an awkward predicament where he had to choose between the Don Callis Family, and Will Ospreay.
This recent development led to a match being announced for WrestleDream later that month. Will Ospreay would defend his International Championship in a three way match against Ricochet and Konosuke Takeshita. In the middle of the match, Kyle Fletcher would make his choice evident when he stabbed Will Ospreay in the back of the head with a screwdriver, allowing for Konosuke Takeshita to knee Ospreay in the face (Takeshita’s finisher) for the pin, costing him the International Championship.

The following weeks on Dynamite there was a tense atmosphere. One question that had been burning on everyone’s minds: why Kyle, why? This question was asked by AEW persona Tony Shiavonie that night in a meeting with the Don Callis Family, in response to this, Fletcher explained how he felt he was always in Will Ospreay’s shadow. For years Fletcher had desired to establish his own identity and separate himself from the United Empire to work as a singles star.
To prove he has finally departed from his past, Kyle Fletcher shaved his head to show he is nothing like his old partner. But Will Ospreay would not let this departure happen so quickly, Kyle Fletcher’s betrayal cost him the International Championship. This event marked the beginning of one of the greatest blood feuds in AEW history, and they would have a series of matches spanning several months.

Since this feud has finally come to a close 2-1 Will Ospreay, it has given more star power than ever to the Protostar Kyle Fletcher. In AEW the possibilities are endless and at only 26 years old he has already cemented himself as a remarkable figure in the wrestling industry, with countless diehard fans (Fletchlights he would refer to them as) at his side. Kyle Fletcher will, in due time, achieve great things down the horizon.
