April means one thing— baseball is in full swing! The Baltimore Orioles’ 2025 season kicked off on March 27th with a 12-2 win against the Toronto Blue Jays. They returned to Baltimore for the home opener after winning 2 of 4 in the opening series. Unfortunately, after an 8-5 win against the Boston Red Sox, they fell into a losing streak and now have a 5-6 record. So, what’s next?
This upcoming weekend, April 12 and 13, Baltimore is playing Toronto again as they aim to improve their standing in the American League East division. Currently in fourth place, behind the Blue Jays, Yankees, and Red Sox, the season is off to a rocky start. Part of this can be attributed to the many injuries the team is facing. All-star shortstop Gunnar Henderson missed the first seven games due to an intercostal muscle strain, while starting pitcher Grayson Rodriguez began the season on the injured list with elbow inflammation, and isn’t expected to return until the end of the month. Moreover, the lack of a solid bullpen has contributed to this slow start, as the starting pitchers have a combined ERA of 5.62 (26th in the league). Offensively, things haven’t looked much better, as in half of their games so far, the team has scored two or fewer runs. Baltimore will have to overcome these hurdles if they want any shot at climbing the AL East.
Perhaps the new all-orange uniforms, debuting April 12, will be a good luck charm for the team. For the remainder of the season, they will be wearing these uniforms in every Saturday game played at Camden Yards. Also, for the first “orange out” of the season, orange Cedric Mullins shirts will be given to the first 10,000 fans, and various orange food and drinks will be sold throughout the ballpark
Some other fan-favorite promotions for the 2025 season include a bobblehead of Orioles Owner, David Rubenstein, a “Star Wars Weekend” featuring Colton Cowser and Gunnar Henderson Bobbleheads, a Birdland Hawaiian Shirt, and Friday Fireworks nights.
With the Blue Jays in town and a fun weekend of promotions ahead, there’s plenty to look forward to at Camden Yards. But, underneath the excitement, the Orioles are facing some real challenges in the upcoming games. They’ll need to find a way to stay healthy, find some consistency in the Bullpen, and start putting together some wins.
