As winter break approaches, students begin to make their plans. Here is a list of movies that will be released in December that students can watch this month and during the break.
Although it may not be a new movie, Academy Awards winner “Interstellar” (2014) will be rereleased on Dec. 6 for its 10th anniversary. In this movie, engineers and pilots look for a new habitable planet as Earth becomes less habitable; putting humanity on the brink of extinction. Anyone interested in science fiction, suspense, or even drama should watch this movie.
The tale of a hero, “Kraven the Hunter”, will be released on Dec. 13. This movie tells the story of Kraven who starts down a path of vengeance that motivates him to become the greatest hunter in the world due to his complex relationship with his father. Superhero lovers may want to add “Kraven the Hunter” to their watch list.
Two movies will be released Dec. 20, “Mufasa: The Lion King” and “Sonic the Hedgehog 3”; this is the last school day before winter break. “Mufasa: The Lion King” tells the origin story of Mufasa, SImba’s father. Orphaned Mufasa meets Taka, the royal hair who we know as Scar. Will we learn what turned Taka into Scar? In “Sonic the Hedgehog 3,“ Sonic, Knuckles, and Tails reunite to battle Shadow, a new enemy like never before. “Mufasa: The Lion King” and “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” are perfect for family movie nights; they are kid-friendly and follow characters many are already familiar with.
Christmas Day, Dec. 25, “Nosferatu” and “A Complete Unknown” will be released. “Nosferatu” tells the story of a Transylvanian vampire who stalks a young woman in 19th-century Germany. “A Complete Unknown,” set in the early 1960s, follows 19-year-old Bob Dylan who arrives in New York with his guitar and talent, destined to change American music. One thing both “Nosferatu” and “A Complete Unknown” have in common is drama. “Nosferatu” is perfect for horror and thriller fans. “A Complete Unknown” appeals more to music and drama lovers. Although neither are Christmas movies, there is no harm in waiting to watch them after the day ends.
