A 12-year-old girl was accused of shooting her 38-year-old father in the abdomen and then fleeing the house to later commit suicide on the night of Sept. 20 at a residence in Northwest Parker County in Weatherford, Texas.  After performing an autopsy, the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s office ruled the juvenile’s death a suicide.

Sheriff’s deputies were called to a shooting and found the girl lying in the street with a gunshot wound to the head. A handgun was also located underneath the girl. Both the child and father were transported to local hospitals by air ambulance. The father survived the gunshot wound and has since been released from the hospital and is expected to recover, according to CNN affiliate KSAT.

A press release posted on Facebook by Sheriff’s Criminal Investigative Division (CID) states that during their investigation, the CID discovered that the girl had planned for several weeks to murder her family and pets and had been in contact with another female from Lufkin, Texas, regarding the murder plot. This female had also planned to murder her father but did not go through with the plans. Parker County’s Sheriff’s investigators have charged the Lufkin female with criminal conspiracy for her role in the planning of the murder plot.

The Parker County Sheriff’s Office is not releasing any of the suspects’ names or the name of the adult in order to protect their identities.

The investigation continues, Parker County Sheriff Russ Authier said, “due to the injuries, the age of the juveniles, and the sensitive case matter, information released regarding this case will be limited.” The reasons behind the 12-year-old’s actions are still unknown.
