Earlier in May, MCPS announced that vape detectors would be installed in the bathrooms of a “limited number of high schools.”

Vape detectors have been installed in bathrooms at John F. Kennedy, Northwood, Paint Branch, Quince Orchard, Richard Montgomery and Walt Whitman high schools. The detectors will remain until the end of the school year.

According to The Moco Show, MCPS says  that “these detectors will help to identify any instances of vaping or smoking in the bathrooms, allowing [school personnel] to take appropriate action to prevent harm to [their] students’ health and safety.”

Additional detectors may be installed in additional MCPS schools for the 2024 school year.
