Damascus High School was built in 1950, and the last time it was renovated was in 1978. In 2020, MCPS approved renovations for the school with a budget of $127 million. The planned completion date of the renovations were for 2025, but it has been delayed multiple times. Damascus High School has needed renovations for a while now. The renovations will focus on expanding student capacity.
The new renovations are estimated to be completed around Aug. 2031. However, the set completion and start date remain undecided. Thomas W. Taylor, the MCPS superintendent, states that students should be sent to a different facility during the construction, but a potential holding school remains unknown.
Many students know that Damascus High School has an issue with bugs and the HVAC breaking down at the worst times. An anonymous student at Damascus High School states that the condition of the school is “outdated, but could be worse” but is also “excited for the renovations.”
The Buzz will continue to report on updates about this highly anticipated renovation.
