Damascus High School’s magical winter break has been almost twice as long as last year. With that comes a wave of boredom, prompting people to seek activities to do with friends and/or family. There were plenty of movies released over break, but one of them stood out to people worldwide, earning a whopping 92% on Fandango. That movie is “The Housemaid,” which stars a multitude of celebrities such as Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried. This thriller of a movie burst into theaters on Dec.19.
A Senior at DHS named Emily McNicholas saw “The Housemaid” a few weeks ago and is eager to share her thoughts on this horrific film. McNicholas rated the movie a seven out of ten and “was better than [she] expected because the trailer didn’t give anything away, so [she] didn’t know what to expect.” The fighting and gory effects of this production really stood out to her in the most disturbing way. The “themes that were portrayed well were women’s power, standing up against abuse, and women working together.” McNicholas believed the movie to be accurately rated R since it has “spicy, gory, violent, and yelling scenes. McNicholas’s least favorite part was “when Millie was in the Attic and she had to do her punishment.” McNicholas “would recommend this movie; [she] has already been recommending it.”

The author named Frieda McFadden shared her thoughts on the film as well. According to People.com, when the lights went up in the theater while everyone was ushering out of their seats, McFadden turned to her husband to say, “Omg, I think it was better than the book!” McFadden also loved how it “captured everything that readers love about the novel.” The author was so moved by the movie and the actors portrayal of the characters that it made her want to write another The Housemaid inspired book.
