The SAT is a 2-hour and 14-minute exam that is used by most colleges and universities. The exam is fully digital and is done on the Bluebook app. The score ranges are from 400 to 1600. The average SAT score in 2025 was 1029. The SAT has two sections with four modules, the first section being reading and writing, and the second section being math. The exam is adaptive, so performance will affect the difficulty of the exam. The exam has a total of 98 questions, 54 questions in reading and writing, and 44 questions in math.
The first SAT ever done was in 1926, which led to the replacement of the entrance essay exams. The SAT was made to organize and simplify entrance exams since before, people would have to travel to the college/university to take the tests. The SAT was originally known as the Scholastic Aptitude Test in 1926, then changed to the Scholastic Assessment Test in 1993, now, the SAT doesn’t stand for anything.
Use the process of elimination, manage your time wisely, and choose the best answer if you don’t know the correct answer. One tip for taking tests such as the SAT is to follow your gut and don’t change your answer after you enter it unless you know it’s wrong. If you are stuck on a question, you can always go back to it later, so don’t get stuck on one question and waste a lot of time. Read the questions carefully and don’t mistake them for something else. Sleep at least 8 hours the night before and fully charge your testing device.
Before the March 2026 SAT many students said that they did not study with a few students being the exception. Some students said that they were not able to finish all the questions since they ran out of time. Most students said that the math section was more difficult than the reading and writing section. An anonymous student said, “It wasn’t that bad, the last math part was pretty easy.”
