Nov. 7 vs Rockville Game
Through the pressure of their first playoff game, Damascus rose to the occasion on Nov. 7. The Hornets started the night off strong, with a rushing touchdown and a good PAT (Point After Touchdown) with nine minutes left in the first quarter.
Rockville tried to tie it back up, but they were unable to keep possession of the ball for very long. Damascus intercepted their pass and gained another rushing touchdown and a PAT. With only two minutes remaining in the first quarter, Junior Logan Romeo (#7) successfully passed to Junior MJ Sullivan (#12) for another touchdown and PAT. The team played hard defence and offense, ending the first quarter with a score of 0-21.
The second quarter was consistent. Defense worked hard to keep Rockville from scoring. Before halftime, Damascus put in an additional touchdown and PAT, leaving them with a halftime score of 0-28.
Coming back from halftime, Rockville was able to score one touchdown, but missed the PAT. With just six minutes left in the third quarter, the Hornets scored a touchdown and a PAT, ending the quarter with a score of 6-35. Damascus put in work against Rockville, with consistent scoring and strong defense every quarter.
The Hornets gained a strong regional first-round win against Rockville High School, resulting in a final score of 42-6. This win continued the Hornets’ scoring streak, marking the fourth game in which they scored 35 points or more this season.
Nov. 14 vs Oakdale
On Nov. 14, Damascus went into their regional second-round game. This was a highly anticipated game for the Damascus Hornets. After losing their regular-season game to Oakdale High School back in September, the Hornets had a chance for redemption.
Before the game, Damascus was confident. Player Benaiah Yeboah Danso (#8, 2026) stated, “We have been working hard all week and giving it our all at practice. The last time we played them, they outplayed us physically and mentally. But this time, as a team, I can tell you that we are really confident in our ability and we have no fear against them. We have grown in both our physical and mental strength.”
Finishing off the game with a score of 0-49 was a hard end to the season. However, even with the loss at hand, the Varsity boys showed improved skills from their last Oakdale matchup.
The Class of 2026 seniors will be missed deeply by the team and fans. Seniors Chace Richardson, Jaylen Roque, Leo Stalczynski, Gabe Thomas, Brayden Wilbanks, Benaiah Yeboah Danso, Michael Saunders, Jordan Barrett, Jason Pier, JP Wheeler, Alex Frey, Rodrigo Fleitas-Dick, Ellis Brown, Isaac Brown, Cameron Brazil, Luis Cordero, Daniel Granados, and Callum Hughes carried this team through four seasons. All have bright futures ahead of them. Tune in next year to see the Damascus Hornets play another powerful, talent driven season.
